Isabella Blow – an excentric character, know for her keen eye for talent, she is the one that helped launching the careers of Alxander McQueen and Philip Treacy, whose hats became a part of her identity. Once she said: “Fashion is a vampiric thing, it’s the hoover on your brain. That’s why I wear the hats, to keep everyone away from me. They say, ‘Oh, can I kiss you?’ I say, ‘No, thank you very much. That’s why I’ve worn the hat. Goodbye.’ I don’t want to be kissed by all and sundry. I want to be kissed by the people I love.“
The exhibition is held at the Somerset House, in London, thanks to Daphne Guiness, who bought the entire wardrobe in an attempt to stop it from being sold at a Christie’s auction. Most of the pieces are exposed exactly how the fashion editor, Isabella worn them.
“I hope that visitors learn something of the narrative that gave rise to such creative courage,” said Guinness. “Ultimately, this is a celebration of Isabella and her vision. I want people to be uplifted by the exhibition, because hers was an extraordinary life.”
