Luxury label lingerie, La Perla, found itself in the middle of a controversial situation, on Twitter, after one New Yorker twitted a photo of the brand’s mannequin, in red lingerie with visible, shocking protruding ribs – “How does #LaPerla think ribs on a mannequin is ok?!” The photograph made immediately a wave of disagreements among the outraged tweeters.
Spotted in the New York’s Soho boutique, the response of the brand came within a few hours after the initial complaint : “The mannequin photographed has been removed from the store and will not be used again by any La Perla boutique. We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used. We appreciate and value everyone’s comments, thank you for bringing this to our attention.“
Wow. The fashion industry reaches a new low
Why would they do something like that? I think that it would be obvious that people would disagree with it.
Wow! That is crazy that La Perla would actually think this would be ok and that it took a social media outcry to have this problem corrected. Shame on La Perla for that.
Some people like to be super skinny.
I agree. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with it. People starve themselves, La Perla starved their mannequin.
You know how many people die each year from trying to obtain a 300-500 calorie diet? It’s a mental disorder and people shouldn’t be promoting this.
This is not an accurate representation of a healthy body size, promoting anorexia to already self-consious and impressionable young girls. Starving yourself is NOT healthy and until the media and beauty industry stop idolising it, anorexia will become an increasing problem in modern society.
This bothers me so much. So many people already have eating disorders and now they’re promoting it on mannequins? This is a new low for the fashion industry. Very disappointed.
