Creative Designer Christoph Lemaire Leaves Hermès

Designer Christoph Lemaire

The news of Christoph Lemaire’s departure – the creative designer of Hermès – came this morning, July 21, from the CEO of the house, Axel Dumas. Lemaire decided to leave the prestigious fashion house, after four years of collaboration, and his last collection for Hermès will be presented in October, during the Paris fashion week, for the Spring/Summer 2015 season. He took over from Jean Paul Gaultier, designer at Hermes for seven years before Lemaire – behind his decision stands the designer’s desire to focus on his own label – “My own label is growing in an important way, and now I really want and need to dedicate myself to it fully.”

“Working for Hermès has been a great pleasure: a profoundly enriching experience on both human and professional levels. I am proud of what we have built together,” said Christophe Lemaire when he announced his departure to the media.

I am very grateful to Christophe for the passion with which he has addressed and enriched the expression of our house in women’s ready-to-wear,” says Axel Dumas, the CEO of Hermès. “Under his artistic direction the métier has renewed its aesthetic and produced very satisfactory financial results. I wish him the greatest success with his own label, which is so close to his heart.”

Remains to be seen who will take his place at Hermès.
