Model and actress Brooke Shields is the latest icon to collaborate with MAC cosmetics, for a new collection that according to WWD will have two lines and a total of 15 products, ready to make their debut in October, with prices range between $ 17.00 and $ 85.00.
“One [ line ] was this really fresh-faced, cleaner, daytime look and the other was much more vampy with a big focus on the eyes, and I’m both of these things,” Brooke says. “I like the natural part of myself, and I like the sexier side, too. James asked me what I liked best, and I just could not make up my mind between these two very diverse looks. So I thought, ‘Maybe they’ll like one better, or say this is the one for the market.’ It was like trying to pick a wedding dress.” Instead James Gager, MAC’s senior vice president and creative director, loved both of the concepts – “ We got into this conversation, and every woman we know, even if they have a predominant style, definitely has two sides. So we decided to highlight the richness of both of those ”, declared Shields.
The grey packaging with orange accents was inspired by Brooke Shields’ West Village apartment. The main piece of the collection is a 16-shade eye-shadow palette, the first time ever for the brand to create such a large celebrity palette, aside a Veluxe Brow Liner ( $20 ), a brow set with clear gel ( $17 ), Two Veluxe Pearl Fusion Shadows ( $44 each ), a Cremeblend Blush Duo ( $31 ), two shades of lipstick ( $22 each ), a bronzer ( $27.50 ), two Lipglosses ( $22 each ), two shades of nail polish ( each $17 ), and Optimum Black Opulash mascara ( $17 ).
About her shooting for the in-store visual ad with photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the former model says : “ I’ve done shoots for shows I’ve done in the past, but shooting this beauty look was like being back in the olden days. It was fabulous. It was the first time in nearly 50 years of modeling where I’d ever been on a photo shoot where they’d hired a ballet dancer. He was a friend of Inez and Vinoodh — and he danced behind them and acted out what I should do. I almost died [laughing.] He was from the German ballet, and like 8-feet tall, just doin’ it. It was absolutely hysterical.”
