Chanel never ceases to amaze us, and now, being involved in the Biennale des Antiquaires, in Paris, for the fifth time – the biggest jewellery event where all the greatest artists and houses showcase their finest pieces of jewellery – the brand saved for this exhibition several outstanding jewels from the summer collection of the unique ‘Café Society’ collection, which we saw in a previous post. This mini collection, created especially for the event, includes necklaces, rings and brooches, with Chanel’s recognizable motifs – camellias, chines motifs, lions and comets – but the outstanding jewel that Chanel introduces to us is “The Bird Cage Clock“, an exquisite piece of art – in white gold, adorned with rose quartz, diamonds weighing over 61 carats, grey and white pearls – an ode to the captive beauty, romance and femininity.
The inspiration source of the designers who created the masterpiece was a miniature jewellery birdcage housing two lovebirds, which Mademoiselle kept on a coffee table in her apartment on 31 rue Cambon. At the base of the sculpture of the birds – so detailed that for a moment you expect them to breathe with life – lies a pink framed camellia clock, with diamond bezel, trapped for eternity in this gorgeous white gold cage.
The exhibition opens its doors on September 10, 2014 until September 22.
