Pierre Berge, the life partner of legendary Yves Saint Laurent, and the financial mind behind the YSL empire, decided to auction his private library – a collection of some of the most valuable books starting the 15th century to modern day.
Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare, James Joyce, the first edition of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island dating back to 1883 – are just some from a collection of 1000 manuscripts and books that the art passionate collector will have on display.
This is not the first time Berge is auctioning his impressive collection that he accumulated with Yves – before he raised $ 500 million from auctioning pieces like Matisse, Picasso and Gainsborough, being a well known antiquarian book dealer in Paris.
WWD reports that next autumn, in New York, London and Geneva, the art lovers can purchase exquisite pieces from Pierre Berge’s priceless collection, in collaboration with Sotheby.
